Laboratory technician in Kummer group, Novo Nordisk Foundation Center of Protein Research

The newly established research group of Eva Kummer is looking for an engaged and dedicated laboratory technician with substantial experience in mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture and protein purification. The position is full-time (37 hours per week) and for 2 years, and it is open for appointment on 1 January 2022.

About us
Kummer group is part of Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR ) that was established in 2007 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied research. The center hosts research groups of different disciplines ranging from systems biology, proteomics, and chemical biology, to disease biology. Kummer group has a deep interest in understanding the biology of human mitochondria. Mitochondria carry their own genetic information and we investigate how these important organelles maintain their DNA and how they produce functional RNA species. The primary methodological approaches of our laboratory are protein and RNA biochemistry and structural biology, in particular cryo-electron microscopy. CPR entertains a number of core facilities including protein production, crystallography, biophysics, high performance computing, mass spectrometry, and genomics. You will join an international, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment.

Your tasks
As our laboratory technician, you will be responsible for all aspects of recombinant protein expression in mammalian and insect cell culture including:

  • culture maintenance and cryopreservation of the cells,
  • manipulation of common mammalian cells lines by transient and stable transfection techniques,
  • recombinant protein expression in adhesion and suspension culture in mammalian and insect cells,
  • purification of recombinant proteins by various chromatographic techniques.  

Moreover, your work will involve routine laboratory tasks including for example:

  • maintenance of common equipment,
  • purchasing part of the lab consumables,
  • preparation of competent bacterial cells,
  • preparation of common enzymes such as TEV protease.

With your technical expertise, you will assist PhD students and Postdocs in the group on their research projects. We look for somebody with an accurate and reliable record keeping including database management who adheres to all safety policies.

Profile:
An education as laboratory technician is required for the position.

Your laboratory experience/qualifications include:

  • Proficient skills in mammalian cell culture and associated aseptic techniques with at least 1-2 years of hands-on experience
  • Experience using basic laboratory equipment and carrying out routine laboratory tasks
  • Proficiency in common molecular biology techniques including isolation of DNA and RNA, PCR and other molecular cloning techniques, Western Blotting, etc
  • Strong organizational skills and analytical mindset to independently plan and carry out the laboratory tasks
  • Precise and structured working attitude
  • Accurate record keeping of laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory procedures.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English

We offer a professional, dynamic and international research environment, where we largely communicate in English in the laboratories, in project descriptions and in meetings. The laboratories have Bachelor, Master and PhD students as well as guest researchers, therefore you must be able to read instructions and supervise within your area of expertise in English. Terms of salary and employment
Your employment will be at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The position is full-time (37 hours per week) and for 2 years, and it is open for appointment on 1 January 2022.

Employment as laboratory technician will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and OAO/HK STAT. The position is placed in salary group 5.
