Job Title: Working PERA Retiree - Research Services Laboratory Professional

Position: #00820015 Requisition: #33180

This position is internal to CO PERA retirees.

 

Job Summary:


Nature of Work

This is a working PERA retiree position that will perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. This position will perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

 

As this is a PERA Retiree position, it is limited to working no more than 110 days per calendar year.

 


Examples of Duties Performed
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • Must be an active Colorado PERA retiree

  Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •        Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or related field.
  •        One (1) to two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  •        Experience with harvesting tissues (bone, cartilage).
  •        Histology staining (immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry) of tissues and cell lines, and microscopy.
  •        Experience working with primary cell cultures, especially bone marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells and chondrocytes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •        Basic to proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  •        Willingness to work with animals
  •        Must be self-motivated and able to work with moderate supervision.
  •        Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  •        Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  •        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Determine methodologies and evaluate lab procedures impacting the quality and timeliness of research
  • Organize, supervise, and manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratory 
  •        Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

$29-$30 per hour.

 

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable

estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
