Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities. The administration of UCF programs is carried out under the direction of the UCF Manager and the Associate Director of Communications and Communities. |
Position Summary | The Tree Equity Specialist is responsible for encouraging and assisting organizations, municipalities and neighborhoods in utilizing urban forestry grants through the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) to increase tree canopy cover in communities that have historic environmental justice disparities. The Tree Equity Specialist is also responsible for professional functions and technical expertise supporting CSFS field offices in delivering urban and community forestry programs specific to areas classified as disproportionately impacted throughout all of Colorado’s communities. Ongoing duties include assisting with community forestry projects (tree planting, inventory, canopy assessment, risk assessment, etc.), conducting trainings and workshops with professionals and community members, meeting with city councils and county governments as an advocate for community forestry, coordinating and participating in regional and national community forestry forums, attending and speaking at conferences, and administering grants and contracts. This position supports key working relationships with federal, state, college, municipal and nonprofit partners. Some examples are the United States Forest Service, CSU Extension and the International Society of Arboriculture. This position requires proficiency in program delivery including but not limited to: administering CSFS urban forestry grants, recording accomplishments, completing required reports, meeting deadlines, managing budgets, ensuring grant requirements are met, and supporting field operations. The Tree Equity Specialist must be proactive and accelerated in program development due to federal deadlines associated with urban forestry funding received by the CSFS. Daily activities include supporting grant awardees in overseeing grant administration, gathering and analyzing data and metrics, writing reports, assisting CSFS field offices with program implementation and coordination, and assisting the UCF Program Manager and Associate Director of Communications and Communities with other special projects as they arise.
