Student research assistant will assist researchers within CIMMS and the National Severe Storms Laboratory in collecting and processing data to create simulations within Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), the software used by National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters to view weather data and issue warnings. Data processing includes single radar through the Radar Product Generator (RPG), multi-radar multi-sensor (MRMS), GOES Satellite, surface observations, Rapidly Refresh (RAP) model, and lightning data sets. Additionally, assistant may monitor realtime data as well as assist in experiments with NWS forecasters in the Hazardous Weather Testbed.
Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Spring 2020 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
Must attach Spring 2020 oZONE class schedule.
Basic weather and radar knowledge
Basic knowledge of linux command-line user interface
Willingness to learn new technical skills and improve communication skills
- Experience scripting or programming (e.g., shell, Perl, Python)
- Experience with Linux operating system
