The graduate assistant position in the Office of International Student Services (ISS) will work with the ISS programming staff to gather, compile, and analyze data to benchmark and assess ISS programs, participation, and impact. This position will assist with orientation and program implementation. This work will help to enhance the international student experience and strengthen the international community. The position will take on additional projects to support ISS as time allows. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Handle confidential and sensitive data with integrity
  • Prepare and manage data and information for projects using the appropriate software
  • Assist in conducting research including data collection, compilation, comparison
  • Plans and coordinates activities, events, or special projects.
  • After hours work is needed for some programs 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Details: 

  • This position's focus will be to enhance the Friends to International Student (FIS) program. This will be done by benchmarking other similar institution's programs, community involvement, event planning, enhancing the matching process, developing promotional materials, and marketing strategies, etc.
  • Student will assist with the New Student International Orientation (NISO) program, which may include assisting/leading airport transport, resource fair and in person orientation. 
  • 0.5 FTE appointment
  • Student will set an agreed upon schedule consisting of at least 10 hours per week during regular work hours of Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm; remaining hours may be scheduled outside the regular work week. 
  • Student must be enrolled in a degree seeking graduate program and able to fulfill the work requirements.

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree. Must be a current OU Graduate Student in good standing and enrolled in a combination of two terms


  • Must attach Spring, Summer, Fall 2024 class schedule

Skills:

  • Self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner and make significant progress without direct supervision
  • Ability to work within an integrated team of staff, faculty, and students
  • Strong computer skills, with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to learn new software and research techniques as needed. 
  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • High level of cultural competency 
  • Experience with international student programs and/or orientation planning preferred
