Job Summary:

The University of Colorado’s Asthma Research and Education (UCARE) Team is led by Dr. Fernando Holguin and Dr. Sunita Sharma. Both are faculty at the University of Colorado and see patients in the Severe Asthma Program at the Center for Lungs & Breathing. They both oversee a large cadre of clinical and translational research projects. The UCARE team brings over 50 years of combined clinical and research experience to the program. Our research team is dedicated to helping identify new therapeutic strategies to improve the lives of those who have asthma.

The UCARE team is seeking applications for a Research Services Principal Clinical Sciences Professional. This full-time position will be responsible for the operational management and the oversight of the UCARE program within the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine. This position will work directly with faculty and will conduct administrative duties as well as act as the work lead of research staff. This includes grant and project management, compliance, and accounting while providing support to research investigators in obtaining and maintaining grant funding. This individual will act as a resource for Investigators and will be expected to work independently, as well as collaboratively with other Administrators in the grant/contract process including development, submission, receipt, and reporting. Must have excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead research program grants and clinical trials by providing support to faculty and research staff on research submissions, training requirements, and up-dated research procedures.
  • Ensure studies are carried out according to the study protocol, SOPs, and ICH/GCP regulations and study-specific manuals and procedures.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and manage (including tracking monthly financial reports) NIH-sponsored, industry-sponsored, and investigator-initiated budgets, including monitoring and updating funding distribution changes.
  • Coordinate the process of routing, final submissions packets, and JITs to sponsors in either electronic or paper format, including all compliance and regulatory documents and ensuring all sponsor guidelines are met.
  • Prepare documentation for OGC to draft and initiate subawards, monitor contract and subcontract execution/setup, and account set-up.
  • Assist with progress reports.
  • Submit CTAs, MTAs, DUAs, and other contracts via InfoEd or to the CRAO Office
  • Assist with letters of support and publishing activities.
  • Direct administrative support for specified faculty (e.g., manage calendars, schedule meetings, etc.).
  • Lead in the recruiting and hiring of new UCARE research staff.
  • Personnel administration.
  • Travel arrangements, purchasing, and reimbursement.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule and as needed for in-person meetings; onsite location is at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado and schedule will be coordinated with supervisor.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years clinical research or related experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or health related field.
  • Four (4) years of clinical research or related experience.
  • Three (3) years of grants management experience.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., EMR or EHR and data management systems).
  • Experience with University systems (e.g., InfoEd, CU Data).
  • Previous experience working in Higher Education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $64,594 - $82,163

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
