Job Summary:

This position acts as a work leader for the Communications Center as needed on assigned shifts and is responsible for reviewing and supporting the appropriateness, timeliness, and accuracy of the work of colleagues or less-experienced technicians. Assigns tasks and monitors until completion. Provides input into supervisory decisions made at higher levels and schedules work when required/requested by supervisory staff. Serves as “Acting Supervisor” of the Center when requested or delegated in the absence of the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Dispatch Police Officers, Security Officers, and other personnel to assist community members by gathering information via phone, radio, computers, alarms, and monitors.

·      Monitor alarmed areas, fire systems, cameras, other local police agencies,       and area weather conditions by viewing and listening to computers, video monitors, printers, and radios. 

·      Process, enter, maintain, and distribute police records.

·      Obtain, dispatch, enter, and cancel crime information on vehicles, persons, and property using the computer to access the CCIC/NCIC. 

·      Initiate confirmation of warrants and coordination of in-custody transports.

·      Operate various equipment daily and report malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor or personnel. 

·      Delegate tasks to other technicians and monitor their progress.

·      Serve as a principal advisor to the Communications Center leadership team.

 

Work Location:

Onsite – This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

      Four (4) years of experience in police radio/telephone communications equipment operations, including police radio/telephone communications equipment operations.

 

Substitution:

Appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis (Transcripts or other supporting documents may be required).

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

 

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

      Associate or bachelor’s Degree.

      Four (4) years of experience in police radio/telephone communication equipment operations, which include police radio/telephone communications equipment  operations within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Police Department.

      Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO)  or other recognized leadership      coursework through the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO) or National Emergency Number Association (NENA)

 

Conditions of Employment:

      Due to the inherent duties of this position, applicants selected to continue must successfully complete a thorough criminal background investigation.

      Completion of all required CU and Campus Police Department training within the timeline established by the supervisor.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      Knowledge of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a working knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), Colorado Open and Criminal Justice Records Acts.

      Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously, handling interruptions and difficult situations under time pressure.

      Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

      Ability to receive, comprehend, and rapidly relay accurate information.

      Ability to maintain self-control during periods of extreme stress and pressure.

      Ability to handle confidential information securely, professionally, and discretionarily.

      Ability to work closely with others to maintain calm, efficient operations.

      Demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.

      Attention to detail and organizational skills.

      Flexibility and openness to change.

      Proficiency in Computer Aided Dispatch and Enhanced 9-1-1 communication system.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary for this position has been established at: $75,000.00

The above salary represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
