Job Summary:

The School of Medicine Dean’s Office has an opening for a full-time Business Intelligence (BI) Report Analyst. This position requires an excellent communicator, a curious and inquisitive temperament, and a strong background in developing enterprise level data solutions. The BI Report Analyst will be responsible for diving deep into department’s operational reporting needs and delivering BI reporting solutions that meet those needs.  This role will collaborate closely with School of Medicine departments to translate business processes and requirements into BI reports that support business operations and strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with business stakeholders to analyze reporting needs and requirements to modify existing reports and systems.
  • Interpret, define, and document existing reporting datasets and business rules.
  • Assist with ad-hoc queries to support ongoing operational business needs.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize legacy reports and scale out to a larger School of Medicine audience.
  • Develop reporting solutions utilizing MS SQL Server, MS SQL Server Analysis Services, and other data sources using Excel, PowerBI, SQL Server Reporting Services, and other BI platforms as appropriate.
  • Migrate legacy reporting solutions built in Excel (and/or MS Access) to SQL Server Reporting Services, PowerBI, and other BI platforms as appropriate.
  • Implement role-based security to limit data access when required. 
  • Maintain and support all reporting assets and ensure reporting environments are performant and secure.
  • Mange access and user security across various reporting platforms.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement to add value or create efficiencies (performance tuning, code reusability, etc.).
  • Validate and test output data result accuracy; perform code review, data product user-acceptance testing, and other related testing.
  • Engage with School of Medicine Information Services Business Intelligence Developers to understand current BI systems and tools.
  • Propose well-defined enhancements to the School of Medicine Information Services Business Intelligence development team to meet business requests for reporting.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least one to two (1-2) years of experience analyzing data in SQL environments and authoring, deploying, and maintaining dashboards.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, data connections, advanced excel formulas like VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, CUBESET, CUBEVALUE).
  • 4 years’ experience analyzing data in SQL environments (Transactional OLTP, Data Warehouses, and Analytical OLAP Databases).
  • 4 years’ experience developing SQL ad-hoc queries, stored procedures, and views for reporting needs.
  • 4 years’ experience authoring, deploying, and maintaining parameterized reports using SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • 2 years’ experience authoring, deploying, and maintaining dashboards using Microsoft PowerBI (or another data visualization tool such as Tableau, Looker, etc).
  • Experience developing SQL queries utilizing slowly changing dimensions (Type II) to represent historical data.
  • 2 years’ experience querying dimensional models (star and snowflake schema) for reporting needs.
  • 2 years’ experience integrating disparate datasets within reporting platforms. 
  • 2+ years’ experience querying and manipulating data using PowerQuery.
  • 2+ years’ experience developing DAX (or MDX) queries in Microsoft Excel and/or PowerBI.
  • 2+ years’ experience implementing role-based security to limit data access when required.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $55,804 to $70,983.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
