Job Summary:

This position plays a crucial role in keeping hvac systems operating as designed, extending equipment life, and increasing efficiency. Will investigate complex system problems through component and system testing, BAS trending, analyzing data, and reviewing documentation. Corrects failures in mechanical, pneumatic, electric, and electronic systems and equipment related to building automation systems and associated control equipment on campus. Acts as a commissioning specialist in the recommissioning of campus buildings to improve efficiencies and optimize performance of mechanical systems. Assists with campus projects by reviewing design documents and providing recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, monitors, troubleshoots, and corrects issues involving building automation systems and associated components such as controllers, valves, actuators, and sensors.
  • Evaluates, optimizes, and repairs equipment such as air handling units, supply and exhaust air valves, heat recovery systems, laboratory fume hoods, and exhaust fans.
  • Applies engineering principles to the technical analysis of building systems and subsystems to assess performance against design specifications and identify deficiencies or opportunities for improvement that will reduce energy usage, optimize building system performance or better meet occupant needs while satisfying campus standards, building codes and design requirements.
  • Performs Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) work on air and water distribution systems.
  • Develops and utilizes various forms, spreadsheets, and reports for testing, investigation, and/or documentation purposes.
  • Assists in the review and implementation of projects, and provides recommendations and supporting information for decision-making by higher levels of authority.
  • Provides training and instruction to university staff, to educate on equipment condition and proper mechanical system operations.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing building automation/hvac controls; and/or experience in building commissioning/recommissioning

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific 2 years of experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

NOTE: This position has been designated as essential personnel, and will be required to respond to emergencies as needed. Position may also be required to stay late, come in early, or cover shifts as needed. If hired, you will be required to provide effective off-hours phone contact info for emergency call-in purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing building automation/HVAC controls; and/or experience in building commissioning/recommissioning
  • Familiarity with Siemens automation systems and component
  • Understanding of test and balance procedures, and experience using associated meters

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors
  • Computer familiarity, and experience with programs such as Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and PowerPoint
  • Mechanical ability including the use of hand and power tools
  • Physical ability
  • Planning and organization skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of electronic repair and the ability to troubleshoot electronic systems
  • Skill in the operation, use, and maintenance of equipment, materials, and tools in work
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, operate, and repair equipment and machinery used in work area
  • Safely operate, demonstrate, and maintain machinery, tools, equipment, and materials
  • Knowledge of general maintenance principles, practices and techniques
  • Skill to safely operate various types of motorized vehicles

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $59,205 - $71,859.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.

This position may be eligible for a one-time non-base building sign-on bonus up to $2,000. Details of this recruitment incentive program will be provided during the interview process.
