Job Summary:

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time open-rank Assistant Professor – Biostatistician position within the clinical teaching track. This position will reside within the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA).

The position emphasizes teaching with some collaborative team science research opportunities. The individual is expected to direct the short course education program and will teach several courses for the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics. This faculty member will develop a reputation as a team scientist in a particular area of biomedical or health research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct our Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) education program which is funded as part of the Colorado Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CCTSI) UL1 funded research program through NIH-NCATS
  • Teach multiple 6-week short courses within the above continuing education program.
  • Develop multiple formal education courses to graduate students in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics
  • Mentor students and junior faculty members who support the BERD and collaborative research.
  • Develop a collaboration research portfolio that includes involvement in preparation of grant applications, analyses, and publication of data generated from funded studies

The successful candidate will be a faculty member in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics (BIOS), one of five departments in the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH). Faculty and students in the Department apply analytic methods, statistical reasoning, and information management techniques to health data in medical and public health fields. These individuals also build a strong methodological research portfolio.

CIDA is the campus wide analytics center and provides consulting and in-depth collaboration for researchers on the Anschutz Medical Campus and the surrounding community. CIDA builds successful collaborations with over 30 groups on campus and have team members on more than 60 grants. The person in this position will join a growing group of master’s and doctoral trained faculty in CIDA and over three-dozen faculty and research personnel in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics.

Professional and research activities in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and The Center for Innovative Design and Analysis include the design and analysis of basic, applied, and translational research and clinical trials, statistical consulting, developing of new statistical methods, disease information services, research databases and more.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) in biostatistics/statistics or equivalent quantitative discipline
  • 1 course of classroom teaching as instructor or teaching assistant
  • 1 year of collaborative biostatistics experience during graduate training or post-graduation
  • 1 or more publications as co-author as a collaborator 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of In-person and/or remote teaching experience as instructor
  • Experience developing innovative teaching methods for instructing non-traditional students, which influence educational practice.
  • Demonstrated influence on educational practices such as presentations and/or publication of innovative methods to teach non-traditional students.
  • Two or more years of collaborative biostatistics experience during graduate training or post-graduation 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Developing educational materials and practices such as courses, presentations, and/or publication of innovative teaching methods
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of advanced statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Advanced programming skills in a common statistical software package (such as SAS, R, python, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Good organizational skills across individual projects, managing own workload.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work with biomedical investigators and colleagues in CIDA and the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics
  • Ability to contribute to the growth and development of CIDA and the Department
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $110,000 - $130,000

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
