This role is based in the Physics Department, now part of the wider School of Mathematics and Physics. We work together so our students to gain an understanding of physics that is relevant to working in industry, well-suited to further study and transferrable to the wider world. At all levels, our teaching is research-led and aims to give students flexibility in studying.

We are looking to recruit an experienced technician to provide technical support to undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory classes and for undergraduate and post graduate research projects. You will be interacting with students, academics and other members of the technical team on a daily basis. Delivering a high level of customer care will be an important aspect of this role.

You will be managing the Radiation Teaching laboratories which have recently been refurbished as part of a £2.7M project providing state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. 

Although the major role will be to manage these laboratories and source stores, you may also be required to undertake experimental procedures in other Physics laboratories in order to support teaching and research activities.

You will have good communication skills and knowledge of relevant legislation such as IRR17, or a good understanding of the Health & Safety aspects of working with radioactive materials, working closely with the University’s Radiation Protection Officer. You should be well organised with an ability to prioritise workload.
