Applications are invited for a temporary post of aPEI Research Project CoordinatorwithinUCD School of Medicine/Systems Biology Ireland.
University College Dublin (UCD) is seeking applications for a Project Coordinator to lead the coordination & implementation of a new 12-month public engagement and involvement (PEI) project. The project aims to bring young people together with STEM researchers, artists, and professionals from the education and learning, science communication, public engagement and charity sectors, to work in partnership to enhance public understanding of personalised medicine.
The successful candidate will work closely with management at Systems Biology Ireland (SBI), the wider UCD research community and external partners to ensure effective implementation of the project, by i) coordinating the day-to-day project activities; ii) ensuring effective communication with stakeholders; iii) communicating and disseminating project results; iv) supporting implementation of the project work plan. The successful candidate will also work with researchers to promote development of the education and public engagement space in SBI.
Project Coordinator should have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly motivated with a proven ability to act on their own initiative. They will need experience in science communication and public outreach. Applicants should have project management skills and be capable of managing a diverse workload and delivering high quality work to tight deadlines. Excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills are necessary. The role will require some travel.
The successful candidate will be housed in Systems Biology Ireland (SBI; https://www.ucd.ie/sbi/ ). SBI established in 2009, has successfully developed an integrated mathematical modelling and experimental research programme focusing on the design of new therapeutic approaches to diseases, primarily cancer, based on a systems level, mechanistic understanding of cellular signal transduction networks. SBI uses mathematical and computational modelling approaches in combination with cutting edge experimental technologies in proteomics, genomics, advanced microscopy and flow cytometry as well as cell biology and molecular biology methods. A main aim of SBI's research is to develop and apply computational models based on biological experimentation that open new avenues for understanding and treatment of human diseases on a molecular level. This research will pave the way for personalised medicine approaches. SBI frequently teams up with the clinical, industry, charity and public sector to help realise their ambition.
Fixed Salary: €53,000 per annum pro rata
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
