The purpose of the role is to ensure compliance with hazardous waste legislative requirements and deliver services based on best practice for the disposal of chemical and biological waste and to maintain supply of chemicals and consumables to meet the requirements of the research and teaching labs in the college.

They role-holder will also be expected to engage and maintain relationships with other college schools with occasional liaison with outside public bodies. The role-holder is required to manage existing activities including technical, administrative, financial and personnel management in the area and its longer-term strategic planning and development processes.

The Hazardous Materials Facility (HMF) is a unit that provides the safe and compliant management of hazardous / clinical waste and the supply of lab consumables and chemicals to various schools throughout the University and associated off-campus sites. The unit comprises of three staff members managing up to 60 tonnes of clinical and chemical waste and 40 tonnes of incoming chemicals and laboratory consumables to a combined value of up to €400K annually. There are two main HMF operational centers with one in TBSI and the other on the main Trinity campus. The unit also provides services to Trinity units in St. James Hospital, Coombe Hospital, TTEC and Tallaght Hospital.

Hours of Post: 36.5 hours per week

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Chief Technical Officer 2 Salary Scale (€63,368 -  €71,580 ) at a point in line with current Government pay policy. monthly/weekly payscales. (tcd.ie)
