  • Position: Early Career Postdoctoral Fellow
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Number of positions: 1 full time (preferred but negotiable)
  • Disciplines: Epistemology, Media Studies, Philosophy of Technology
  • Location: Centre for Ethics , Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Pardubice, Czech Republic
  • Start date: 1 January 2025 (preferred but negotiable)
  • Month salary (gross): 42.000,00 CZK + conferences travel funding + health insurance + 6 weeks of paid annual leave

Vicious epistemic cultures ("Neřestné epistemické kultury") is a three-year research project led by Assoc. Prof. Laura Candiotto , based at the Centre for Ethics as Study in Human Value , Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Pardubice, and funded by the Czech Science Foundation.

The post here advertised is a full-time, research-only position. The successful applicant will be given academic and administrative support to pursue their research within the bounds of the project and the opportunity to participate in the Centre's lively research environment. In return, they will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the project’s publication outputs, including 4 single- and/or co-authored articles in well-regarded international journals, to present the research results in international conferences, and support the PI in organising the project international conference and editing the proceedings. A specific work package on online climate denialism will be assigned to the postdoctoral fellow.

We especially welcome candidates with previous experience in empirical research (quantitative and qualitative analysis of social media); interdisciplinary methodology in epistemology and philosophy of technology; who are keen to pursue research on Vice Epistemology, at the crisscross of Social Epistemology, the Ethics of Knowing, and Philosophy of Emotions, especially regarding these topics:

  • Vices and virtues in digital environments
  • Epistemic responsibility
  • Epistemic cultures
  • Epistemic and affective trust
  • Mind invasion, affective arrangements
  • Epistemic habits and community of inquiry
  • Epistemology of emotion

An interest in environmental ethics will be considered as a plus due to the case study on online climate denialism that will be the main research task assigned to the postdoctoral fellow.
