This position will begin May 21st and run until August 26, 2024, with a term length of 14 weeks.

Location - This role is in person at North Campus Edmonton.

Working at the Faculty of Science Summer Campus

Our science summer camps are hands-on, five day camps that run for eight weeks from July 2-August 23, 2024. Camps are a collaborative effort between various departments in the Faculty of Science and provide an enriching experience for local youth.

Position 

Senior Camp Leaders will be required to supervise campers (children in grades 1-9), other leaders, organize and purchase camp supplies, assist with camp planning and organization, assist with high risk demonstrations and equipment, and speak with parents and guardians. Senior leaders are also responsible for assisting with sign-in or out every day and other supervisory needs.

This position will begin May 21st at up to 40 hours per week running until August 26, 2024.

Duties

  • Supervises a group of campers, as well as provides oversight for Day Camp Leaders
  • Organizes and purchases camp supplies
  • Assists with camp planning and organization
  • Assists with high risk demonstrations and equipment
  • Speaks with parents and guardians
  • Responsible for assisting with sign-in or out every day and other supervisory needs
  • Delivers First Aid to students if required
  • Evaluates successes and areas for improvement;
  • Makes recommendations for the future direction of the program

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidates are enthusiastic, caring, mature students; minimum High School Diploma supplemented with coursework in Education, Science or Engineering
  • Previous experience mentoring/teaching young people or leading summer camps
  • Interest in supervising and working with children, leadership and promoting a positive attitude to learning
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and to adhere to deadlines
  • Applicant must be over 18 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Applicant must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Experience and sensitivity working with all families including those culturally diverse, LGBTQ2S+, young parents, etc.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with a multicultural community.
