The University of Alberta Sexual Assault Centre (SAC) provides crisis intervention support, counselling, education, and advocacy services that promote awareness of, and the healthy recovery from, all forms of sexual violence. Reporting to the SAC Director, the Education Program Coordinator provides crisis intervention and short-term counselling to SAC clients, and, working alongside their fellow Education Program Coordinator, is responsible for working managing the SAC Education Program.


  • Works towards the prevention of sexual violence on campus by developing and implementing anti-sexual violence awareness and educational training to the campus community

  • Creates and implements program assessment tools such as education training evaluations, peer facilitator evaluations, and presentation feedback evaluations

  • Manages the SAC Education Team including interviewing, selecting, training, and mentoring 8-10 peer facilitators

  • Develops, modifies, recruits, schedules, and facilitates education presentations and professional training sessions for staff, Faculty, and students

  • Provides crisis intervention, short-term counselling, referrals, support, information, resources and follow-up to survivors of sexual violence and their supporters

  • Conducts suicide risk assessments, contracts with suicidal clients, makes appropriate referrals and follows Helping Individuals at Risk policies and procedures

  • Acts as an advisor by providing information, accompaniment, and support to clients seeking medical attention, involved in reporting/legal proceedings, or University complaint processes

  • Advocates on behalf of clients to ensure client’s academic success, health and wellbeing, and judicial or complaint process fairness

  • Advises faculty and staff on matters relating to sexual assault or abuse, stalking, and relationship violence, including University policies/procedures and providing support to a student who has disclosed

  • In coordination with the Volunteer Program Coordinator and Director, assists in the supervision and management of 20-35 volunteer support workers

  • Revises and facilitates volunteer training sessions and assists with the retention of SAC volunteers through relationship building

  • Performs other administrative responsibilities as assigned


  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree, supplemented with completion of a sexual assault crisis intervention/counseling and suicide intervention training program; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

  • 2 to 3 years experience in sexual assault service provision providing short-term counselling and information including medical and reporting options

  • Ability to deal with sensitive and/or confidential information in a professional manner

  • Experience supervising, monitoring, and mentoring volunteers

  • Strong working knowledge of Criminal Code of Canada and applicable community/University codes, policies, and procedures

  • Experience in development and delivery of anti-sexual violence education, awareness and prevention programming

  • Strong program planning, implementation, problem-solving, and evaluation skills

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a changing work environment

  • Possesses an anti-oppressive/feminist framework for understanding sexual violence

  • Strong presentation, communication, and public speaking skills

  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced, and unpredictable environment

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as some duties require evenings and weekend hours

  • Computer proficiency using MS Office and Gmail applications
