  • Base Salary $95K + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

Working as part of the Chau Chak Wing Museum team, we are looking for an experienced and passionate Museum Conservator to support the management and conservation of the Nicholson Collection through pop up museums across Parramatta and Greater Western Sydney. As the Museum Conservator, you will have accountability across decision making pertaining to the Museum’s procedures and protocols; overseeing and executing the preventative conservation of objects and collections will be one of your key priorities.

In this role, you will engage local communities at venues including libraries, shopping centres, public thoroughfares, and schools to promote the research, collections and work of the Museum.

About you

  • is qualified in a relevant area of specialisation and holds a valid NSW driver’s licence (essential)   
  • demonstrates expertise across safe working with chemicals, museum practices, exhibitions management, and awareness of ethical standards of conservation
  • ascertains a high degree of attention to detail and care in the treatment and conservation of museum collections
  • charismatic and personable in nature with an innate passion for education
  • strongly communicates with impact through verbal and written forums and demonstrates ability to advise, negotiate and liaise with stakeholders within and external to the University of Sydney
  • bi or multilingual with preference given to Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi or other highly spoken non-English language in western Sydney
  • has experience in museum collections database systems preferably EMu.

Please note: Visa sponsorship may be considered for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
