Western Sydney University has established a sector-leading program to strengthen career pathways for casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full time positions by 1 March 2025. The WSU Academic Decasualisation Program will play a significant role in reducing the level of insecure work in the Australian higher education sector.

With this in mind, the University is looking to recruit candidates it can invest in and develop over the long term, including training over the confirmation period to support candidates to retain stable, ongoing employment.

Successful candidates will undertake teaching, while also having the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and contribute to the University through governance activities at the School and/or University level. 

Eligibility
Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and must provide evidence at the time of application that they:

  • are an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person; and
  • holda Masters degree or demonstrated substantial completion towards completion of a higher qualification; and
  • have not previously held an ongoing position with an Australian Higher Education provider in the previous 3 years; and


Candidates must submit evidence of the above requirements, along with any evidence they have of successful teaching results, such as Student Feedback on Teaching survey outcomes.

About the Associate Lecturer Role
The Associate Lecturer will be involved in a range of academic activities including the development, design and delivery of teaching in relevant areas. The appointee will continue to develop their research expertise and scholarship portfolio, contributing to the research outcomes of the University and will supervise undergraduate (Honours) and postgraduate (Masters and PhD) students as appropriate.

The appointee will participate in some administrative and governance related activities, while focusing on teaching and building a research portfolio in the first three years. Appointees will also foster relevant relationships external to the University.

To be successful in the role, you will need to demonstrate a high level of energy and commitment to further developing a well-rounded career as an academic in higher education, actively involved in teaching, research and collaboration.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $103,304 to $124,808 per annum (comprising Salary of $87,293 to $105,464 per annum, plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
