PhD Positions in Molecular Life Sciences (# of pos: 12)

Updated: over 1 year ago
Location: Germany,
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 31 Dec 2022

The University of Würzburg, Germany, invites applications for

PhD student positions (f/m/d) within the doctoral program "Understanding Ubiquitylation: From Molecular Mechanisms to Disease"

starting from April 1st , 2023. The doctoral program and the available positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG GRK2243). Payment is based on the German federal public service scale TV-L (65% E13).

The posttranslational modification of proteins by ubiquitin has taken center stage in eukaryotic cell biology. Abnormalities of the ubiquitin system causally contribute to the pathogenesis of multiple human diseases including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and infectious diseases. However, limited mechanistic insights into the affected components of the ubiquitin system still present an obstacle to the design of efficient therapeutic strategies.

Our doctoral program integrates internationally recognized research groups in a unique collaborative framework to study key mechanisms of the ubiquitin system underlying human diseases. It provides an excellent platform for research and training using state-of-the-art technologies in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular cell biology, tumor biology, microbiology, functional genomics, in silico drug design and proteomics. The research program is complemented by scientific seminars and workshops, as well as career development opportunities offered jointly with the Graduate School of Life Sciences at the University of Würzburg.

We offer

  • a competitive international research environment
  • an interdisciplinary and structured PhD program
  • a culture of welcome and support for international students

We are seeking highly qualified, enthusiastic students holding a M.Sc. or equivalent degree with a suitable background in the life sciences. Applicants must be fully proficient in English and should have completed their degree by April 2023. Knowledge of German is not required.

The University of Würzburg is an equal opportunities employer. Applications of women are thus especially encouraged; disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be considered preferentially.

The application deadline is December 31st , 2022. To apply or to obtain further information about the program, participating laboratories and available research projects, please visit our website.
