Offer Description

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join the group of Prof. Dr. Armin Wiegering. Our research focuses on the identification of molecular mechanisms underlying mRNA translation for targeting colorectal cancer (CRC). We use NGS-based modern techniques including ribosomal footprinting or eCLIP, organoid cultures as well as mouse models to find therapeutic windows for the treatment of CRC.

Further information on our work can be found at: https://www.biozentrum.uni-wuerzburg.de/molbio/research-groups/ag-wiegering/

Requirements:

Applicants should possess a Master degree in any of the life sciences with a strong background in biochemistry or molecular biology. Willingness to perform animal experiments is beneficial. Since our working environment is international with collaborations worldwide excellent English skills are mandatory.

We offer:

Our group is tightly associated with clinical research units at the University Hospital of Würzburg. Since we are located at the Biocenter within the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, headed by Prof. Martin Eilers, we are closing the gap between basic cancer research and translation of new findings into the clinics (“from bench to bedside”). The Biocenter itself and the University Hospital offer a stimulating environment for collaborations both within Würzburg and abroad. The institute provides excellent equipment to perform state-of-the-art experiments and we take strong care of thoughtful experiments and supervision. The PhD student will be part of the Graduate School of Life Sciences (https://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/life-sciences/ ).

Contact:

The position is funded for three years and will start between April and June 2024 on mutual agreement. Salary will be according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of German States (TV-L, 65%). Disabled applicants will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualifications.

Applicants should provide an application including a brief cover letter describing their previous research experience and interests, CV, certificates and the contact details of two references until April 1st , 2024. Please submit the application as single pdf file via email to:
