TIGSS is seeking a Research Assistant who will coordinate and run clinical chemistry and phenotype mice for clinical relevant traits; plan and organize pipelines for collecting data; and work with faculty and students to assist in their research studies.  We seek to hire a candidate who will support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. The ideal candidate will possess an appropriate bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years laboratory experience (undergraduate research qualifies as experience); experience with Flow cytometry, histology, and molecular biology; and animal handling experience working with mice.  We seek to hire a team player who will promote collaboration and cooperation while working within a team. Required Education:

  • Appropriate bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Willing to work with laboratory animals

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience (undergraduate research qualifies as experience)

  • Experience with Flow cytometry, histology, and molecular biology

  • Animal handling experience working with mice

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds

  • Experience working with laboratory animals

  • Biological research experience including undergraduate experiences

Responsibilities:

  • Research Responsibilities  - Performs and analyzes clinical chemistry and molecular biology. This includes flow cytometry, histology, western blot, and blood and urine chemistry assays used to facilitate investigators with their research projects. Research assistant will also be asked to be able to perform phenotyping assays on mice. This includes behavioral, physiological, and biochemical assays used to facilitate investigators with their research projects.

  • Sanitation & Maintenance  - Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment

  • Administrative Responsibilities - Orders supplies and maintains detailed records. Performs other duties as assigned.
