ROLE of the POSITION

The Senior Web Communications Specialist, works closely with the Senior Director of Web & Digital Marketing, develops, implements, and provides oversight of the university's web content strategy and related day-to-day activities. Strategic priorities include developing a web content strategy that aligns with UNLV's Top Tier initiative, and supporting the university's strategic marketing communications plan by communicating with our audiences and constituents in a timely and accurate manner.

More specifically, the Senior Web Communications Specialist implements accurate, informative, and engaging web content that focuses on a variety of audiences including but not limited to prospective students, the UNLV campus community, and external audiences who support the university such as donors, alumni, and civic leaders.

Responsibilities include mentoring and managing web content staff including a web communications specialist; tracking and monitoring web analytics throughout the entire web content lifecycle; planning, conducting, and evaluating user research; developing information architecture and writing copy for the university's top-level web pages; providing university units with advice and counsel on web communications planning; working with other university communications sub-units to help ensure that web marketing efforts are integrated with other university marketing platforms; and developing processes and strategies that are focused on building mutually-beneficial relationships between the university and its stakeholders.

VACCINATION MANDATE POLICY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or relevant field from a regionally accredited college or university and from a regionally accredited college or university and minimum of 5 years of direct experience in creating and implementing accurate, informative, and engaging web content that focuses on a variety of audiences. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

This position requires knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of web and digital media
  • Knowledge of web content best practices
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization best practices

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction and support to university clients and content teams
  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills, in addition to excellent verbal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Applicant must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Understanding of web user research techniques
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of photography and video, and how to best optimize for website

 Abilities:

  • Ability to think and plan strategically
  • Collaborate with communications professionals (web, social, brand content, and recruitment teams) to develop best SEO practices.
  • Ability to be flexible and take on initiative to develop and/or take on other duties and projects.
  • Ability to manage time, meet project deadlines, and develop short- and long-term goals.
  • Work efficiently under deadline pressure, forecast potential setbacks, and develop solutions.
  • Be highly flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities and circumstances, organizational delays, and political sensitivities.
  • Foster collaboration across diverse, multi-functional teams, and conduct interpersonal relationships with professional demeanor.
  • Show a commitment to UNLV's mission and efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Experience:

  • 5-7 years of related experience
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • 3-5 years of management experience
  • Experience in higher education

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the operation/function of higher education
  • Knowledge of AP style

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
