Studies will be focused on understanding the mechanisms of therapeutic response and resistance to immunotherapies in cancer. Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is a condition that has been associated with poor outcomes and up until recently was considered a terminal condition. M protein mutant vesicular stomatitis virus (M51R-VSV) has oncolytic properties against many cancers including colorectal cancer. As an extension of our previous work, we have sought to understand the potential efficacy of M51R VSV in the treatment of PC from colorectal cancer. Our present work focuses on the immunologic determinants of response to intraperitoneal treatment with M51R VSV.

Activities will include measurement of immune responses in mouse models including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and in vitro assays. A specific focus lies on histological and pathological analysis of tumor tissue for immunological markers. Position will also assist in the design and perform systematic or hypothesis-directed studies of tumor and immune cell response to oncolytic viral therapy studies in animal tumor model that may inform clinical decision-making, resistance mechanisms or treatment response.
