Job Description

The Senior Business Specialist, under general supervision, serves as primary contact for administrative, budget, payroll administration, and human resources issues. Performs duties associated with fiscal management, accounting, and inventory for assigned departments or divisions. The Senior Business Specialist provides professional accounting, managerial expertise, enhanced analytic skills and advice for academic department and division/center operations to the unit head(s) on all accounting, financial, budgetary, human resource and administrative matters. Provides administrative support to the Department Head by being the liaison and coordinating facilitation of administrative functions between departmental faculty and staff and college and university administration. Maintains a wide variety of complex academic, fiscal, faculty and staff personnel, administrative records, accounts, and files consisting of official and confidential matters. Identifies, collects, and reports data necessary to enhance current decision-making as well as to facilitate planning activities for unit(s). Establishes and implements unit(s?) policies and procedures (in accordance with TAMUS, State of Texas, and federal regulations) regarding the handling of administrative, financial, personnel and academic support concerns. Manages graduate program funding, including tuition, fellowship, and stipend payments; coordinates graduate student HR actions; manages scholarship distributions and budgets. Oversees physical inventory and coordinates space inventory for the department and its centers. Assists department head and faculty with research reporting, budgets, and sponsor communications. Manages study abroad programs and funding. Oversees information technology for the department and its centers, network planning, meeting with vendors, and computational coordination. Oversees departmental public activities and marketing materials. Writes and coordinates proposals for departmental funding requests. Serves as backup safety officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees information technology for the department and its centers, including performing backup duties, after hours on-call service, network planning, meeting with vendors, and computational coordination.
  • Assists department head and faculty with research reporting, budgets, and sponsor communications.
  • Maintains a wide variety of complex academic, fiscal, faculty and staff personnel, administrative records, accounts, and files consisting of official and confidential matters.
  • Oversees departmental public activities and marketing materials. Writes and coordinates proposals for departmental funding requests.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Three years of related experience.
