Summary of Duties:

Works under the guidance of project Principal Investigators (PIs) on research grants or pilot data collection in the department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP). Most duties will be focused on studies investigating 1) nutrition interventions on human health, 2) exercise physiology, pulmonary physiology, and vascular physiology, and 3) health disparities and outcomes.

The Scientific Assistant performs complex human subject research and is responsible for providing research services to the department’s PIs. This involves designing protocols, planning and conducting experiments, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, ensuring quality control, writing reports, preparation of manuscripts for publication and managing daily laboratory operations. The position requires close collaboration with all PIs in the NEP department and the ability to implement multiple research study protocols.
* This will be a 2-year fixed term role, with extension contingent upon project needs and available funding.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite products.

  • Experience developing, managing, or maintaining electronic databases.

  • Ability to take direction from multiple PIs.

  • Ability to perform technical laboratory tasks.

  • Ability to perform independent analysis on research data.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in nutrition based research.

  • Experience in human subjects research.

Monthly Salary: Minimum: $3,750.85, Midpoint: $4,574.21, Maximum: $4,985.88; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
