Summary of Duties:
The Research Intern is responsible for investigative and laboratory work supporting research focused on sleep function and regulation across the lifespan, and its relation to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Under general supervision, the Research Intern will work on research projects to study behavior of wild type and transgenic mice and assisting with tissue sample collection for analysis. The Research Intern will have opportunities to analyze data and interpret results, generate reports, and prepare data for publication. Presentation preparation and development will be completed with potential opportunities for delivering presentations.
The position will have an initial one-year fixed term, subject to extension based on mutual consent, performance, need and funding availability.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 65% Investigative Work

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing professional-level work with scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in field such as Biology, Psychology or other relevant area of study. Experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to become proficient and comfortable with handling mice.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including periods requiring early start time and/or weekend days with advance notice.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with animals in a research setting
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, western blots).

Monthly Salary: Minimum: $3,379.14 , Midpoint: $4,120.90 , Maximum: $4,491.79 ; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end after one year. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
