About the Opportunity

Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide research and technical support for an active microbial ecology lab. Our vibrant team focuses on understanding microbial biogeochemistry of salt marsh ecosystems and this position will be closely associated with ongoing work at the Plum Island Ecosystems Long-Term Ecological Research site on the Great Marsh in NE Massachusetts. The person will be expected to support ongoing field and lab work in collaboration with graduate students, maintain lab organization and ordering of supplies, support implementation of new field and lab experiments, perform sample analysis for both microbial analysis (DNA extraction, amplification, sequencing preparation, etc.) and biogeochemistry (nutrient chemistry, carbon, nitrogen analysis, etc.), manage incoming data streams and train interns and students on processes and procedures in the lab.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct sample processing and analysis

2. General lab maintenance and financial and data management

3. Assist with field and lab experiments led by grad students and/or postdocs

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a BS in biology, chemistry, or marine environmental science (MS preferred). Experience in both field and wet lab research is desired as is evidence of working successfully in a diverse and collaborative environment. Applicant must be able to work independently and must be able to carry field equipment across uneven, muddy, marsh terrain. Experience with genomics methods and data management is desired.
