Research Technician

Altindis Lab at Boston College is seeking a highly motivated, experienced or newly graduated bioinformatician to join our team.
Job Summary: Under supervision Dr. Altindis, the successful applicant will conduct a variety of experiments to build a new dataset for the identification and classification of viral mimics of human proteins. She/he will be responsible of designing a website to make this dataset available for other scientists. In addition to this main project, he/she/they will be responsible for the analysis of RNAseq data and gut microbiome sequencing data. The position is for one year with a possibility to extend depending on the funding situation in the laboratory. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with post-docs and graduate students and will contribute to both the analysis and the interpretation of the data. The results of this study will be made public with the website. Further the results will be published in a research article or articles in this one year and he/she will be responsible for writing the drafts of the research articles.
Description:
Provides routine to moderately complex technical support for a research lab or facility.
Collects and analyzes research data and processes lab samples.
Performs a variety of tests, using both routine and specialized techniques and methods.
Sets up equipment and helps maintain inventory of lab supplies.
Performs library work, including searching literature and distributing results.
Assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.
Requirements
Desirable requirements:
• B.S. or M.S. in biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field
• Expertise in fundamental concepts in statistics, and bioinformatics.
• Demonstrated statistical and analytical ability with programming in R and/or Python
• Familiar with websites development (html, Javascript, css…)
• Experience with current analysis methods for processing and mining genomic data preferred
Experience with microbiome data analysis including 16S and shotgun sequencing
Experience with RNAseq data analysis
