Summary of Duties

A Research Scientist position is available for someone with training (Ph.D. life sciences such as; biology, microbiology, molecular biology, virology, chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent) and interest in RNA Nanotechnology and Therapeutics. Ongoing projects are related to RNA nanoparticle platform development and their application in cancer therapeutics. The studies involve enzymatic and chemical techniques for the preparation and modification of nucleic acids for RNA nanotechnology, in vitro and in vivo characterization of the platforms for delivery of chemical drugs and siRNA therapeutics, and characterization of targeting and therapeutic efficacies. The applicant will support and conduct complex experimental research within the College of Pharmacy and will function as a technical expert on one or more phases of the projects. The applicant will assist in the management of the research and development efforts; perform research related activities; contribute to publications, draft manuscripts, progress reports, and SOPs; prepare material for presentation at professional meetings; supervise graduate students, contribute to grant proposals and work and train/educate other laboratory personnel; and develop new and independent research projects and submit grant proposals in the near future.

The position requires a PhD in life science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, or related field. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills and attention to detail are a must. Candidate must have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and to be flexible to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with computer software such as MSWord, Excel, and PowerPoint are a must.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience; two years of relevant postdoctoral research experience; ability to initiate and conduct experiments with no supervision and ability to direct and train other laboratory personnel; experience in RNA Nanotechnology and applications in diagnostics or therapeutics; extensive knowledge of the use of chemistry, biochemistry and biology for the preparation, purification and construction of RNA and modified RNA nanoparticles; experience with grant applications; strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and to be flexible to changing priorities; knowledge of the use and applications of PCR, transcription, solid phase synthesis, HPLC, AFM, EM, DLS, qPCR, TGGE, gel electrophoresis, confocal microscopy, single-molecule spectroscopy, UV-VIS, Fluorescence, mammalian cell culture.
