The University of Washington's Division of Medical Oncology's includes 295 faculty members located at the UW Medical Center, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System. Over the past 25 years, members of the Division have developed the world's leading bone marrow transplant program. In addition, members of the Division have made substantial contributions to many other areas of cancer treatment, including the use of tumor vaccines, cellular therapy for cancer, antibody-based treatments, and novel forms of chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. Our Division is deeply committed to maintaining its position as one of the leading centers for research and treatment of cancer in the world.

The purpose of this position is to exercise independent judgment, discretion, strong leadership and communication skills, and knowledge of academic healthcare business operations to effectively oversee daily operations, facilitate workflow, and promote a collaborative work environment amongst the entire Pancreatic Cancer Specialty Program and Gastro-intestinal Oncology Research program. This position will also assist with supervision of support staff in the Pancreas Cancer Specialty Clinic, and Gastrointestinal Oncology Research program, acts as a liaison between the program and outside organizations and promotes staff development. This position will also oversee, direct and coordinate program support activities; he/she will coordinate, schedule, and monitor the program financial activities to determine consistency with program goals; They will also provide support for and promote team development within the department.

This is a fast-paced environment, and the position is required to use independent judgment, critical thinking, and expert knowledge of the academic clinical trial healthcare operations to effectively facilitate the workflow and support a robust division with significant clinical, academic, and research aspects. It is critical that this position be able to prioritize numerous concurrent tasks and manage both short term and long-term multi-step tasks. Efforts must be coordinated across multiple partners including: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, University of Washington Medical Center and multiple industry and international partners. This position is supervised by and reports to the Director of the Pancreas Cancer Specialty Clinic and the Gastrointestinal Oncology Research Director.

The Gastro-intestinal Oncology Research Program and Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Specialty Clinic within the Division of Medical Oncology has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Operations Specialist based at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. This position will assist with supervision of support staff in the Pancreas Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic and Gastro-intestinal Oncology Research program, assist in coordinating program operations, acts as a liaison between the program and outside organizations and promote staff development. This position will oversee, direct and coordinate program support activities; Set and prioritize goals for the department; he/she will coordinate and schedule and monitor all the program activities to determine consistency with program goals; They will also provide support for and promote team development within the department.

The mission statement of the University of Washington Medical Center states that the Medical Center serves as a research resource, providing an environment in which clinical research may be conducted.  This position is essential to that mission.  This position provides significant contributions to program operations, administrative management, and fiscal management for the Pancreas Cancer Multidisciplinary Specialty and Gastrointestinal Oncology Research Program.
