Position Qualification


Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in the College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is seeking a dynamic research faculty member to join its team. The 17 current core faculty members in the Physical Therapy Program are experienced researchers and clinicians who bring their expertise and enthusiasm to the research lab and classroom. This faculty position is primarily focused on scholarly activity and research but involves some teaching and service. Requirements include an earned academic doctorate degree and current or history of extramural funding. For healthcare practitioners with a valid license, there is an option for clinical practice in accordance with UNMC and CAHP policies and procedures. Workloads and duties may be negotiated from time to time with the Director of the Physical Therapy Program.
This position is a 12-month Health Professions appointment with the opportunity to make application for tenure. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is located in Omaha, Nebraska and reports to the Director of the Physical Therapy Program.

The UNMC Physical Therapy Program has been a leader in innovative instruction, advancements in research, and engagement in professional service and clinical care since its inception over 50 years ago.
The Program has an excellent reputation for training Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPT) with a robust foundation in evidence-based practice along with strong clinical reasoning skills that prepare graduates to work on interprofessional teams. Additional educational programming opportunities offered consist of a Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a developing Masters in Rehabilitation Sciences for international students, and continuing education offerings.
The Physical Therapy Program is located in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences along with the Occupational Therapy Program. This Department is housed in the College of Allied Health Professions. The college has made a commitment to expand its national research prominence. Toward that end, the college is focusing its research and scholarly activity in three areas: clinical research for prevention of chronic disease, health care delivery research, and research related to education of healthcare professionals.
This position offers a great opportunity for a talented researcher with a track record of funded research; a passion for innovative team science; and expertise in musculoskeletal health or chronic disease prevention, to complement existing expertise in the College of Allied Health Professions. It is the responsibility of the faculty member during their time of employment to:
· Maintain memberships in the American Physical Therapy Association and the Nebraska Physical Therapy Association.
· Retain an unencumbered PT license in the state of Nebraska, if applicable.
· Travel to our Kearney, NE campus from Omaha, NE for teaching, scholarly activity/research and/or service activities as well as for designated the Physical Therapy Program and the College of Allied Health events approximately 2-4 times per year.
Research/Scholarly Activity:
· Retain a successful research/scholarly activity agenda with external grant funding in musculoskeletal health or chronic disease progression.
· Mentor graduate and professional students participating in or collaborating with the faculty’s scholarly agenda.
Education/Teaching:
· Teach entry-level or graduate-level content in the Physical Therapy Program.
· Work collaboratively with students, residents, faculty, staff, administrators and colleagues in team-taught courses in the Physical Therapy Program.
Service/Administration:
· Engage with students, faculty, staff, administrators and colleagues in service and governance activities for the Program, College, University, community and profession.
· Mentor early-career faculty in research and scholarly activity.
Clinical Practice:
· Optional, to be negotiated.
The CAHP clinical research laboratory is currently undergoing major renovations including increasing in size to further assist research efforts. Additional outstanding research resources available on campus to assist novice and experienced researchers alike include:
· A dedicated Clinical Research Center, staffed with research nurses and a core laboratory to assist faculty researchers with clinically based inpatient and outpatient studies.
· Faculty access to the Clinical and Translational Research Support fund for acquiring pilot data for grant submissions.
· Access to the UNMC Center for Collaboration on Research Design and Analysis (CCORDA), which provides expertise in the quantitative sciences, including planning, analysis, and interpretation of findings.
· Access to numerous core facilities across multiple University of Nebraska campuses.
· Numerous collaborative opportunities across the academic health sciences campus along with mentoring in research career development.
Faculty members are supported through the UNMC and CAHP career development programs in multiple domains. The premier Faculty Development Office and Interprofessional Academy of Educators offer mentorship opportunities for faculty at all stages of their career. The campus also houses a staffed state-of-the-art recording and production studio to assist faculty in creating digital learning products, research recruitment, and dissemination media. The Davis Global Center has cutting-edge simulation technology, resources and personnel dedicated to assisting in the development of interactive technologies.

Required Qualifications
Position requirements:
· Earned academic doctorate degree.
· Evidence of a national reputation in research including a record of publication activity and presentations (invited or peer-reviewed) at national professional meetings.
· Evidence of successful extramural funding support for research such as NIH R or K awards.
· Evidence of service to a professional organization and/or academic institution.
· Excellent interpersonal communication, organization and problem-solving skills
· Experience collaborating in teams and with various disciplines
· Capable of working independently and coordinating work with colleagues and peers
· Able to travel, as needed
Supplemental Qualifications
1. Experience teaching at the entry-level physical therapy or graduate level.
a) If the applicant is a physical therapist, U.S. licensed, and eligible for physical therapist licensure in the state of Nebraska.
