Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in the College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is seeking a dynamic faculty member with an emphasis on teaching neuromuscular content with some research and service and an option for clinical practice (12-month appointment eligible for tenure).
The UNMC is a world-renowned academic health science center in Omaha, NE, with a strong reputation in academics, research, and clinical care. The UNMC Physical Therapy Program, with students on two campuses, has been a leader since its inception over 50 years ago.
Educational opportunities include entry-level DPT, Orthopedic PT Residency, and continuing education. The current 17 core faculty are experienced researchers and clinicians who bring their expertise and enthusiasm to the classroom and student labs.
Faculty are supported through the UNMC and CAHP career development programs in multiple domains. We offer mentorship for research and educational scholarship for faculty at any career stage. The campus also houses a staffed state-of-the-art recording and production studio to assist faculty in creating digital learning products. The Davis Global Center has cutting-edge simulation technology.
There are numerous collaborative research and scholarly activity opportunities across our academic health sciences campuses including mentoring in research career development.

It is the responsibility of the faculty member during their time of employment to:
I. General
· Hold an unencumbered PT license in the state of Nebraska.
· Maintain membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
· Live in the Omaha area.
· Travel to the Health Sciences Education Complex in Kearney, NE campus from Omaha, NE for teaching, scholarly activity/research and/or service activities as well as for designated Physical Therapy Education and the College of Allied Health Professions events as needed, or at a minimum 2-4 times per year. Kearney is approximately 200 miles from Omaha.
II. Education/Teaching:
· Teach physical therapy content in areas of expertise of neurologic physical therapy and adaptability to accept teaching assignments in other entry-level content areas.
· Mentor and advise students.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and colleagues in team-taught courses.

III. Research/Scholarly Activity:
· Retain a successful research/scholarly activity agenda in line with the program’s mission.
· Mentor professional students participating in or collaborating with the faculty’s scholarly agenda.
IV. Service/Administration:
· Engage with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and colleagues in service and governance activities for the Program, College, University, community, and profession.
V. Clinical Practice:
· Optional, to be negotiated.
Faculty Resources:
Faculty are supported through the UNMC and CAHP career development programs in multiple domains. The premier Office of Faculty Development and Interprofessional Academy of Educators offer mentorship for the scholarship of teaching and learning opportunities for faculty at any stage of their career. The campus also houses a staffed state-of-the-art recording and production studio to assist faculty in creating digital learning products and dissemination media. The Davis Global Center has cutting-edge simulation technology, resources, and personnel dedicated to assisting in developing interactive technologies.
The research and scholarly activity resources available on campus to assist novice to experienced researchers are outstanding. A dedicated Clinical Research Center is staffed with research nurses and a core laboratory to assist faculty researchers with clinically based inpatient and outpatient studies. Faculty have access to the Clinical and Translational Research Support fund for acquiring pilot data for grant submissions and access to numerous Core Facilities across multiple University of Nebraska campuses. The UNMC Center for Collaboration on Research Design and Analysis (CCORDA), provides expertise in the quantitative sciences, including planning, analysis, and interpretation of findings. There are numerous collaborative research and scholarly activity opportunities across our academic health sciences campus including mentoring in research career development. The Program’s Clinical Movement Analysis Laboratory (C-MOVA Lab) within the Wellness Innovation (WIN) space was recently renovated to increase size to assist our research efforts further.

Required Qualifications
a) US Physical Therapist licensed and eligible for licensure in Nebraska.
b) Live in the Omaha area.
c) Earned clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
d) Board-certified or Board eligible as a neurologic-certified specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists
e) Expertise in an area of contemporary neurologic physical therapy clinical practice.
f) Experience teaching neurologic physical therapy-related content at the entry-level or graduate level.
g) Evidence of an emerging regional or national reputation in professional services, such as a record of service as an officer or a major committee/member/chair in a state, regional, or national professional society, and/or consultation related to clinical practice areas.
h) Evidence of an established local or state reputation in neurologic physical therapy in line with the program’s mission such as a record of publication activity (e.g., newsletters, blogs, patient education materials) and/or presentations at local and/or regional community or professional meetings.
i) Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
j) Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
k) Capable of working independently, engaging, leading, and coordinating with teams.
l) Able to travel as needed.
Supplemental Qualifications
The well-qualified applicant will have:
a) Earned academic doctorate (Candidate status acceptable).
b) A record of ongoing engagement or leadership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) or APTA-Nebraska.
c) Evidence of an emerging regional or national reputation in research/scholarly activity in line with the program’s mission such as a record of appropriate publication activity (e.g., scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, review articles, case reports, or book chapters) and/or presentations (invited or peer-reviewed) at regional or national professional meetings.
