Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Research Services Professional at the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Perinatal Research Center provides multi-disciplinary, basic, and clinical research in the areas of perinatal biology and medicine, functioning as an auxiliary service center, providing laboratory and other research-related facilities and services to Principal Investigators with the Section of Neonatology and also to other Principal Investigators in other departments. The candidate will be responsible for imaging and collected digital images analysis. Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to performing whole slide image analysis using Visiopharm, QuPath, Imaris, ImageJ and another analysis software. The candidate will be involved in training PRC researchers on imaging equipment usage and performing image analysis, along with equipment management, data analysis and interpretation, and quality control. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysis
  • Perform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analyses
  • Develop and disseminate a variety of tools designed to access relevant clinical and sample data
  • Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets (transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.)
  • Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries
  • Assist with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects
  • Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data
  • Write custom web tools for PIs and other stakeholders
  • Independently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data management solutions
  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist and train junior team members
  • Assist with developing or develop protocol-specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Maintains subject level documentation and prepares documents, equipment and/or supplies
  • Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and shares results with leadership
  • Provide the biostatistical/data science expertise and leadership in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines
  • Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform image quality control, image analysis, tabulate and analyze produced data
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required
  • Training PRC researchers on imaging equipment usage and performing image analysis, along with equipment management, data analysis and interpretation, and quality control

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • One (1) year data management and bioinformatic analyses experience

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Two (2) years data management and bioinformatic analyses experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Entry Level

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience analyzing data using high-performance computing

Intermediate Level

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing

Senior Level 

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to accurately follow assigned protocols and learn new techniques as needed
  • Demonstrated organizational, methodical, detail-oriented, self-motivated competencies
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently, think progressively and trouble shoot complex processes
  • Capacity to utilizing highly technical microscopy platforms and associated software systems
  • Work with complex technology and laboratory equipment
  • Work within a high-level secured facility

Anticipated Salary Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as 

Entry Level - $50,112 to $63,742

Intermediate Level - $54,534 to $69,367

Senior Level - $58,955 to $74,991 

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
