Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Identity-Based Programs, this position provides advising, support, and specific engagement opportunities to Black Scholars Initiative (BSI) students that nurture the development of the whole person in an intercultural campus community. The ideal candidate will also collaborate with faculty, staff in Identity-Based Programs, other Student Success departments, and Academic Affairs to administer and assess student development programs for the entire Berklee community. The preferred candidate should be able to think and act strategically to advance Berklee’s mission and its commitment to the success of the BSI students. Finally, this position will manage student employees in the Student Ambassador program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations and Management

  •  Administers a series of programs and events each academic year, which include the successful implementation of key signature events like the annual week long pre-orientation program

  • Uses a data driven approach to ensure that BSI meets program goals, outcomes, and objectives each academic year set forth by the Director and BSI Leadership Team

  • Promote the student experience through stakeholder surveys, feedback, and assessment

  • Effectively manages assigned project(s) including using timelines, reporting outcomes, and setting goals in consultation with the Director

  • Work closely with Director to collect, analyze and present data that will inform new programs and services that meet market demands

  • Lead the Student Ambassador and professional mentor programs, specifically;

    • Recruit, train, and support faculty, staff, and students

    • Assign entering students to mentors

    • Coordinate and schedule meetings and training sessions with presenters

  • Communicate effectively to all community stakeholders, specifically;

    • Serve as the content manager for BSI social media platforms and .edu/ website

    • Responsible for the creation and distribution of the monthly BSI newsletter

    • Use CRM to market to identified cohorts

  • Serve as the Financial Analyst on program specific budgetary transactions and amendments 

  • Schedule, plan agenda, and record minutes for the BSI Operations and BSI Leadership team meetings 

Student Advising and Support

  • Cultivate relationships with students to support their transition to and thru the College and Conservatory

    • Meet and check-in regularly with BSI students

    • Connect participants to Berklee Bridge and other resources across campus

    • Utilize intrusive advising and outreach skills to foster student engagement

  • Assist Berklee’s Admissions team and prospective students and their families with the annual BSI registration cycle

  • Partners with Success Advising to plan and co-lead the proactive registration and check-in support efforts each semester 

  • Maintains accurate and timely records of all interactions with students in CRM and related technologies

  • Promote the BSI student experience by collaborating closely with campus partners and other stakeholders

  • Other duties as assigned
     

Qualifications

  • A cover letter is required for consideration

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, set priorities, meet deadlines, and define goals and objectives independently

  • Must be resourceful, adaptable, motivated, and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously including peak times during the academic year

  • Proficiency with and/or proven ability to learn and use a variety of softwares and technologies such as Salesforce, Informer, Calendly, Colleague, Workday, Asana, Google Suite, and Slack 

  • Prior experience in student advising, event planning, and project management strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience

  • Familiarity with performing arts and education is strongly preferred
