Job Description
The Assistant Director of Transfer Orientation and Engagement facilitates the transition for new transfer students through programs aimed at acclimating them socially and academically to the institution. More than 2,000 new transfer students start at the university each year. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Student Engagement and supervises 1 professional staff member. They serve as the primary contact for transfer orientation programs, transfer mentor programs, transfer support services, transfer retention, and events throughout the year
Salary: $54,000.00/annually
Responsibilities:
Transfer Student Orientation: 30%
Serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning and implementation of transfer online and in-person orientation serving over 2,000+ new transfer students.
Serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning and implementation of Jaguar Transfer Assemblies.
Communicate with other University offices regarding orientation events.
Develop and enhance the online orientation process for transfer students that includes strong ties to traditions, student life experience, and connects them to on-campus orientation opportunities.
Maintain the Transfer Student Engagement website by keeping content current, including dates, events, and information.
Facilitate new student communications.
Coordinate staffing and student volunteers to support all events.
Coordinate Dual Credit and Early College High School Orientations.
Retention: 20%
Supervise the Transfer Retention of professional staff members.
Implement and maintain transfer student retention data.
Utilize assessment to develop an annual transfer student retention plan aligned with strategic planning.
Collaborate to produce additional transfer student-related communications, programming, and policy changes.
Track, in real-time, transfer student activities across the university related to the overall retention strategies and inform campus leadership regarding needed changes to mitigate retention declines.
Transfer Engagement: 15%
Collaborate across campus to provide transfer student events and programming.
Create, plan, and implement large-scale events including Fall and Spring Transfer Weeks focused on the specific population of transfer students and their interests.
Advise Tau Sigma National Honor Society, as a sponsored student organization.
Coordinate new and continuing transfer communication outreach including the Monthly Transfer Student Newsletter.
Serve as a resource to other offices on campus regarding transfer student issues, needs, and expectations.
Serve as the Chair of The Transfer Student Taskforce.
Design and distribute evaluation of program effectiveness. Regularly review both formal and informal feedback including focus groups and revise the program as appropriate to best serve transfer student’s needs as well as achieve institutional goals.
Manage all departmental social media.
Mentorship Programs: 15%
Develop support programming and mentor programs for non-traditional transfer students i.e., veterans, re-entry transfer students, student parents, etc., to ensure a successful first-year transition to the University.
Manage social and at-risk Transfer Mentor Programs including recruitment, supervision, training, and assessment.
Coordinate staffing and student volunteers to support all events.
Student Worker Supervision: 10%
Supervise 2 transfer engagement student workers and 1 lead mentor student worker.
Facilitate the hiring, training, daily supervision, and evaluation process.
Provide student staff and lead mentors with professional development, training, coaching, and support.
Coordinate planning retreats for student staff and lead mentor.
Other Responsibilities: 10%
Support The Cisneros Institute in the execution of Leadership Conference, Transformational Leadership Academy, Weeks of Welcome, Jaguar Awards, Senior Night, etc.
Support Student Engagement Office in the execution of Family Orientation, Family Programming, New Student Orientation, JagX, etc.
Participate in other university events, committees, and professional development opportunities as a representative of Student Engagement.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree
Six (6) years of related experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field.
Four (4) years of related experience
