Maintenance Technician


Job Description

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law seeks a dynamic individual to assist in maintaining all areas of the College of Law. This person will assist in the maintenance responsibilities of the Law building, inside and outside; diagnosing problems in basic mechanical equipment; as well as assisting with events that occur at the College of Law.

This is a Part-Time position (75% FTE/30 hrs a week) benefits eligible position.

$20.00 - $22.00 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:

  • Performs the more basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry maintenance and repairs such as replacing solenoid valves, switches, relays and thermostats, rewiring appliances, and constructing partitions.
  • Assists in relocating furniture and maintaining furniture appearance and function.
  • Assists with all event functions under the direction of the College of Law Event Manager.
  • Performs general painting, plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, such as, unstopping clogged sinks, drains and garbage disposals, resetting circuit breakers, buffer switches and light switches; repairs damaged walls and doors; paints inside and outside building walls.
  • Uses power and hand tools to perform repair and maintenance work.
  • Operates forklifts, dollies and other basic loading and unloading equipment as required.
  • Installs and maintains fixtures and facilities as needed.
  • Provides technical direction, coordinates the work schedules and reviews the performance of assigned personnel.
  • Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential requirement of this job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general maintenance experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment with diverse populations
  • Experience working independently and part of a team in a fast-paced work office environment
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service
  • Experience in multi-tasking and switching priorities quickly upon request
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communications

Working Environment

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk distances throughout the building to perform work which requires frequent bending, stoop, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • May be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.


General standard hours are 50% (20 hours worked) within 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. This position may require some flexibility for evening and weekend event coverage.
