Job Summary:

The Department of Dermatology seeks a full-time Open-rank Professional Research Assistant to join the Fujita Lab, part of the Department of Dermatology and Immunology & Microbiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The position is available immediately. The main emphasis of this position is to help the lab members study the role of a novel cytokine, IL-37, in immunology and oncology. We seek a highly motivated individual with a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, or related discipline.

Located in the Denver metro area near the Rocky Mountains, the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Anschutz Medical Campus) integrates world-class facilities, including the Human Immune Monitoring Shared Resource, Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Metabolomics Shared Resource. The Fujita Lab is supported by multiple fundings, including NIH/NIAID R01, JDRF research grant, NIH/NIAAA R21, VA Merit Award, Gates Grubstake Award, and foundation grants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This individual will have the following responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:
  • Culture of mammalian cells;
  • Basic molecular biology studies such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, plasmid preparation, gene overexpression, gene knockout, and protein analysis;
  • Cellular biology studies such as cell growth, cell death, cell cycles, and immunofluorescent staining;
  • Metabolic studies such as measuring cellular respiration, metabolites and enzymes;
  • Omics studies such as single-cell transcriptomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics;
  • Animal work including genotyping, colony maintenance and tumorigenesis studies; and regular lab maintenance.
  • The technician will receive detailed instruction and guidance from Ph.D. fellows (post-doc and research associate).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) year professional level research experience

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Although prior experience in a research laboratory is not a requirement, excellent training or experience is a PLUS. Preference will also be given to candidates experienced in one or more of the following:

Entry:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • One (1) year of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Intermediate:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Senior:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Prior successful work or experience
  • Ability to learn new experimental techniques
  • Experience in working with small animal models
  • Ability to learn new software programs
  • Experience in bioinformatics tools to analyze omics data
  • Experience using cell biology, pharmacology and/or immunology techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Able to work in a team setting
  • Strong and reliable organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and excellent team communication skills
  • Able to keep detailed documentation and meet deadlines for experiments and literature research

Entry level: $42,088-$53,536

Intermediate level: $45,801-$58,259

Senior level: $49,515-$62,983

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
