Job Summary:

The laboratory of Dr. Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic in the Department of Anesthesiology has two openings for full-time Entry Laboratory Science Professionals. The successful candidates will manage all ongoing lab activities and participate in various NIH-funded research projects related to neurotoxicology of general anesthetics.

This position will be expected to focus on conducting research in the field of neurotoxicology of general anesthetics using various in vitro preparations including cell culture, immunohistochemistry, PCR and Western blotting as well as any complementary in vivo techniques under guidance and supervision of Dr. Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic. Selected candidates will be provided with state-of-the-art equipment and resources as well as appropriate lab space assigned to Dr. Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic in order to conduct their research. The Entry Laboratory Science Professionals is expected to attend weekly lab meetings and departmental research seminars.

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions as they relate to toxicology.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects; for example, perform experiments and tabulate, analyze research, pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results and perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced specifically working with the toxicology team and using of LC-MS/MS and INDIKO clinical analyzer operation, and performing instrument preparations, tuning, and maintenance.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas as well as disposing of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions according to DEA, CAP and CLIA compliances.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • In vivo techniques experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $45,000 - 57,240.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
