About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Innovation and Simulation Team (RESIST), led by Professor Oakes, is looking for a laboratory coordinator to assist with daily lab function and perform experiments that are funded by the National Institute of Health. Ongoing projects in the lab are focused on assessing respiratory health following exposure to wildland fire smoke and electronic cigarettes. The position will be focused on lab and personal management as well as assisting with in vivo experiments. Specific functions may include

  • Biological and chemical waste management
  • Inventory and supply management (including ordering and negotiating quotes)
  • Managing lab equipment and assisting with routine maintenance
  • Working with under-graduate and graduate students on their research projects
  • Supervision of under-graduate and graduate students
  • Performing biological lab experiments (e.g., immunofluorescent staining, RT-PCR)
  • Performing animal exposures
  • Performing respiratory mechanics measurements
  • Drafting manuscripts and preparing scientific figures

The ideal person will not only perform general lab management but also become engaged with the research projects and assist with personal management.

Minimim Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Required minimum of 2 years’ experience with bioengineering, biotechnology, biology, and/or chemistry laboratory work and safety projects.
  • Strong project management/organizational skills with attention to fine detail, commitment to quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to balance multiple demands from demanding constituencies.
  • Must be able to consistently produce high quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate a professional presence and maturity in dealing with a variety of audiences, external and internal to the university.
  • Must have a positive can-do attitude, flexibility, initiative, and ability to function effectively as member of a team in a dynamic and exciting work environment.
  • Responsive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement, and high integrity.
