Job Title: Information Science Professional (Entry – Senior Level)

Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join the Krishnan Lab as an Information Science Professional to work on research projects in the areas of computational biology and biomedical data science. The projects entail developing machine learning and AI-based methods and tools that take advantage of diverse and massive public data collections to gain nuanced insights about the genetic, molecular, and cellular basis of complex diseases.

This role is a great opportunity for gaining research skills in undertaking intricate computational projects that combine big data, high-performance computing, and algorithms. Further, each project is highly interdisciplinary, spanning biology, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement complex integrative analyses pipelines and data summarization/visualization techniques for diverse datasets.
  • Perform rigorous data management that comprehensively and reproducibly tracks data sources, versions, analysis stages, and distribution stages.
  • Write well-documented, reproducible, version-controlled workflow scripts and project codebases.
  • Contribute to manuscripts/papers and give talks at national/international conferences.
  • Publish open-source GitHub repositories, share datasets using open repositories like Zenodo, and contribute to the development of web tools.
  • Assist and train new team members.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of data management and bioinformatic analyses experience.

Senior Level: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years of data management and bioinformatic analyses experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Up to three (3) years of experience in analyzing high-dimensional data using high-performance computing and version control.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in biomedical research.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary.
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $50,112 - $63,742

Intermediate Level: $54,534 - $69,367

Senior Level: $58,955 - $74,991

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
