Job Summary
The Training and Development Specialist will provide a wide range of training services for University employees, with an emphasis on designing and delivering workshops for staff employees, supervisors, and administrative leaders. A significant amount of training will center on “soft skills” such as interpersonal communication, leadership essentials, and change management. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of fundamental management principles, concepts and processes with experience in course creation, and facilitation of interactive workshops. This individual will work to identify skill gaps and effectively access current learning initiatives to benefit the University and its’ departments. 
The University of Utah’s Human Resources Management currently endorses a hybrid work schedule. The Training Specialist is required to be present at the Human Resources office in downtown SLC for a minimum of one day per week, with the flexibility to work remotely for the remaining days.

Responsibilities
  • Drive training initiatives that will enhance employee skills, productivity, and quality of work while improving operational efficiency. 
  • Create and facilitate skill-building workshops for University staff. 
  • Assist in designing and delivering leadership and management development programs. 
  • Write instructional materials such as participant guides, worksheets and job aids. 
  • Consult and assess the needs of internal customers to create relevant and customized training curricula. 
  • Assists with the coordination of staff activities, orientation, and other related activities. 
  • Participate in marketing and promotion of HR Training and Development curricula. 
  • Collaborate in a team environment. 
  • Administrative work as needed to support overall departmental function such as scheduling training space, LMS maintenance, reporting metrics of designed learning material. 

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); two years Human Resource experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
Preferences
  • A minimum of one year training experience. 
  • Experience in eLearning authoring programs such as Adobe products, Camtasia and Articulate for online course creation. 
  • Knowledge or experience in adult learning theory. 
  • Understanding of LMS systems is encouraged.
