The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a highly qualified, innovative clinician educator with expertise in clinical skills curricula to serve as the clinical skills course director, Practice of Medicine-2 course. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month, 0.75 FTE assistant professor of medicine or associate professor of medicine position in the Department of Medical Education. The Practice of Medicine-2 course is a 34-week long course in which second-year medical students learn clinical skills such as patient-doctor communication, physical examination, and clinical reasoning skills.

The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and have experience administering a clinical skills course for medical students. Experience implementing performance-based assessments such as OSCEs within the curriculum and developing innovative assessments to evaluate students’ clinical competence are essential. Preferred candidates shall have experience working with standardized patients, use of high-fidelity medical simulation, and other instructional technologies. The successful candidate will also have experience with developing and implementing a coaching program to foster advancement of clinical skills/clinical reasoning and help ensure graduates’ readiness for supervised practice.

Given an integrated curriculum, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to design and deliver an integrated pre-clerkship curriculum is required. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in scholarly activity, preferably in the Medical Education field. An interest in participating in service-learning activities is a plus. All faculty are expected to contribute to the COM via participation in service-related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution and be Board eligible or Board certified in an ABMS‐recognized specialty, have completed ACGME‐accredited training, and have a minimum of three years of post‐training clinical experience.

  • A FL medical license or eligibility for FL licensure and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor of medicine by the time of application are required. 

  • Experience teaching at the medical school level and experience with accreditation processes and requirements.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in academic administration or leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with standardized patients and using high-fidelity medical simulation and other instructional technologies.

  • Experience implementing performance-based assessments such as OSCEs within a clinical curriculum and developing innovative assessments to evaluate students’ clinical competence.

  • Experience with developing and implementing a coaching program to foster advancement of clinical skills/clinical reasoning.

  • Previous experience in teaching in an integrated curriculum.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.

  • Track record of scholarly activity in medical education.
