College of Medicine, Department of Population Health Sciences:

The Department of Population Health Sciences brings together full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, as well as additional faculty with secondary appointments. Faculty research interests include all aspects of population health such as adolescent risk behaviors, cancer detection and outcomes, cardiovascular health, health disparities, the health of LGBTQ+ populations, HIV care and prevention, men’s health, mental health, obesity, sexual health, substance use and cessation, including alcohol and tobacco use, suicidality, and violence against women among many others. Faculty expertise areas include behavioral science and health behavior, biostatistics, epidemiology, and survey methodology.

The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine (COM) Department of Population Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a Research Specialist I position. The Research Specialist I will assist in intervention delivery, monitor protocol adherence and participant accrual and retention, and other duties directly related to study implementation. The trial aims to test the efficacy of Connecting Latinos en Pareja, a couples-based HIV prevention intervention for Latino male couples. As part of the research project, we will recruit 200 Latino male couples (where at least one member of the dyad self-identifies as Latino).

This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in intervention delivery, recruitment, retention, and engagement of study participants.

  • Participate in assessment activities, including the collection of hair samples for adherence.

  • Maintain excellent working relationships with community partners, health department staff, and other interested parties.

  • Assist the research team in preparing appropriate study protocols and documentation to ensure procedures are followed.

  • Conduct informed consent procedures.

  • Participate in the dissemination process including making presentations at professional meetings, co-authoring manuscripts, etc.

  • Assist the research team in drafting quarterly reports, IRB submissions, and other research-related reports.

  • Perform additional research-related duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to, timely completion of required university and College of Medicine training and updates.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) . 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.

  • Time-management skills; ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Service-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, responsive to questions and requests.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and diplomacy in both verbal and written communications.

  • Basic computer literacy skills, data management, and office software skills.
