Position Summary
The Shared Business Services Hub provides financial and human resources transaction processing and payroll monitoring services to various University departments. This position manages the Shared Business Services Hub workflow for the Human Resources/Payroll Workgroup and provides day-to-day oversight of human resources and payroll transactions, including system approvals and monitoring. May directly supervise up to six Human Resources/Payroll Support Specialists. This position is also responsible for ensuring high quality, responsive service is provided to the departments supported by the department. This position has a hybrid scheduled that includes days working at the North Campus Office and days working from home each week.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing workflow, including assignment of tasks and responsibilities within the Human Resources/Payroll Workgroup. Maintains awareness of volume cycles of various departments and centers and proactively reassigns transaction-processing responsibilities to insure all transactions are processed in a timely manner and that workload is allocated equitably between the HR/Payroll Support Specialists. Provides backup to Human Resources/Payroll Support Specialists as necessary.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of and system approvals for transactions in Workday, assuring proper coding and documentation of all expenditures.
  • Supervises Human Resources/Payroll Support Specialists. Provides training on best practices, compliance with university policies and procedures, and University system updates. Provides feedback on performance, approves time submissions and time off requests in Workday, insuring adequate staffing during normal business hours.
  • Primary liaison for problem resolution with personnel in departments supported by the department with Payroll Services, the Office of Human Resources, University Central Accounting Services, and the Tax Department.
  • Assists the Shared Business Services hub Manager and Director in insuring that appropriate internal control mechanisms are in place and functioning. Maintains a thorough up to date knowledge of university policies and procedures, as well as cost allowability regulations. Facilitates human resources and payroll process changes as mandated. Reviews/analyzes all steps of human resources and payroll processes to ensure, efficient, accurate and timely completion of all transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience in an academic environment and prior experience with Workday and the Cognos financial reporting system.
  • Experience with CRM Systems (i.e. ServiceNow) is a plus.
  • A proactive self-motivated individual driven by challenge with the ability to work independently, exercise judgement, and take corrective action.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail; ability to manage high volume workload efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to modify one’s own behavioral style to interact successfully with faculty, staff and students (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, and respond to their needs with a high level of professionalism.
  • A service-oriented communicator who is a true team player actively invested in the mission of the Shared Business Services Hub and ensuring its goals are met.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to properly assess pertinent information and develop a framework for effective solutions to complex issues.


Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, equivalent work experience, or a combination of a degree and relevant work experience.
  • Five years progressively responsible experience, with a background in accounting, financial transaction processing, or accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated customer service and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and general ledger software.
  • Must be comfortable working in large, complex Enterprise Resource Planning systems.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
