Job Description

TVMDL seeks an HR Generalist I to support a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic workplace. This professional role will provide general human resources services and support to agency employees at four TVMDL locations across Texas. The successful candidate will manage routine Workday tasks for recruitment, hiring, offboarding, leave, and payroll. This position will serve as a resource on employment practices and general HR subjects for all TVMDL employees.   

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the creation, posting, and/or processing of actions in the HRIS System or related systems. This includes assisting with advertising vacancies utilizing the HRIS system and external sources to aid managers in locating the right candidate.

  • Aids hiring managers during screening and recruitment processes to ensure those involved understand and comply with TVMDL/Workday hiring practices. 

  • Guides new employees through the onboarding process.  Assists with offboarding activities for departing employees. 

  • Gathers appropriate human resources and/or payroll documents. Collects and distributes forms to employees.

  • Maintains personnel records and ensures the accuracy of employment files and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Assists with auditing personnel files. May assist with organization and tracking of records related to the Family Medical Leave Act.

  • Provide guidance on federal and state compensatory time, vacation and sick leave, specialty leave, etc.

  • Assists in reviewing and preparing payroll reports for both bi-weekly and monthly employees

  • Assists with investigating human resources and/or payroll errors and may recommend appropriate corrective action.

  • May assist in the development and delivery of training programs.

  • Provide planning and logistical support for wellness events and activities.

  • Makes improvements and updates to processes, services, and programs.

  • Attends human resources trainings and/or informational meetings.

  • Serves as a liaison with Texas A&M AgriLife Human Resources and ensures compliance with Texas A&M University System, AgriLife and TVMDL rules, regulations, procedures and best practices.

  • Serve as backup for staff in the Director’s Office as needed. Perform other duties as required.

  • Work shall be performed with adherence to federal, state, Texas A&M University System, and TVMDL safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Perform work in such a way as to not expose others or myself to hazards that are avoidable by reasonable and approved methods.

 

Position Details

  • This position is required to work onsite during normal business hours M-F 8 am to 5 pm.

  • This position is eligible for a partially remote work arrangement for up to 16 hours per week.

  • TVMDL is located on the campus of Texas A&M University (TAMU). Parking permits are available from TAMU at the expense of the employee.

  • TVMDL is considered an essential component of the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) and remains operational for several “open holidays” in which overtime or compensatory time may be earned. 

  • This position may have access to equine or greyhound racing drug testing samples, records, and/or data and as such, the incumbent must have no financial interest in racehorses, racing greyhounds, or a racetrack, or any other conflict of interest within the racing industry. Furthermore, such employees shall have no investments in any racetrack nor receive any remuneration from a racetrack association, nor own or lease a racehorse or racing greyhound that is racing in the State of Texas. The incumbent may be required to consent to a background investigation through by the Texas Department of Public Safety including, but not limited to, fingerprinting of all TVMDL staff involved in drug testing for livestock and race animals. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No prior experience required.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.

  • Professional experience in a HR-related role in higher education or state government. 

  • Knowledge of HR rules and procedures within the Texas A&M System. 

  • Experience with Workday HRIS.
