Job Summary:
Provide design-bid-build project management services for informal (total cost under $500,000) and formal (total cost exceeds $500,000) engineering-led renovation and maintenance construction projects. Services include coordinating with campus customers and stakeholders to develop project scope, budget, and schedule; contracting outside designers or leading in-house design team to deliver complete construction documents for construction by either outside contractors or in-house construction shops; coordinating reviews with appropriate internal and external agencies; providing construction administration services as they relate to project design; and supervising project close-out. Responsibilities include representing the University, coordinating all work for the project, and delivering the project according to University guidelines and customersâ?? parameters. Provide peer reviews of in-house and outside engineering designs. Review formal and informal projects at each submission (Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents) and upload comments to the review software program. Review focus is on adherence to UNC-CH design guidelines, project scope, functionality, ability to construct, maintainability, versatility, and sustainability. Attend review, pre-bid, pre-construction, and construction progress meetings and submit comments to project team. Review project submittals, make regular site visits, submit field reports for project adherence to construction drawings and specifications, conduct inspections, and submit punch-list items. Provide technical recommendations for updates to the UNC Design and Construction guidelines, which often requires leadership in the development of standards for new areas not currently covered in the guidelines. Provide technical support of maintenance and operations efforts. This includes establishing proper preventative maintenance activities and schedules for mechanical and electrical equipment, supporting maintenance staff with technical issues, establishing, and implementing and monitoring operational changes in buildings as required to meet the facility needs. Provide engineering expertise to maintain building systems, including BSL2, 2+, and 3 laboratories and animal care facilities consistent with their programmatic needs, safety requirements and efficiency standards. Work with commissioning coordinator to implement commissioning plan or perform it in-house.  
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
