Job Description

The W. P. Carey School of Business (WPC) invites highly qualified individuals to apply for the position of Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs.  Reporting to the Sr. Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of four operational teams: Enrollment and Engagement, First Year Experiences, Poly Online and West Advising (POW) and Tempe Advising.  The successful candidate will oversee daily operations for these teams, assess and improve team performance, assist with student escalations, and assist with special projects for the organization.

Essential Duties

Daily Operations

  • Supervise Enrollment and Engagement, First Year Experiences, Poly Online West Advising, and Tempe Advising teams.
  • Plan, direct, track, and review the activities and operations of the above units.
  • Interpret and apply pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by the college, university or other governing agencies.
  • Improve current processes and optimize organizational procedures for efficiency and productivity.
  • Promote team integration as well as cross-functional communication and collaboration.
  • Maintains the budget for the undergraduate program’s office.

Additional Unit Support

  • Lead unit and cross-functional strategic initiatives, facilitate special projects, and ensure action items are executed.
  • Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to Undergraduate Dean, standing in on meetings, and following up on action items with the team accordingly.
  • Act as an extension of the Undergraduate Dean and information funnel, filter, and facilitator with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage resolution of escalations directed to the Undergraduate Dean, determine priority and the proper course of action.
  • Prepares complex reports, documents, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding and implementation of “business is personal” service.
  • Actively participate in and attend events such as New Student Orientation, Camp Carey, Fall Welcome, Family Weekend and Convocation.
  • Complete other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment, and eight (8) years of related administrative experience which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in an academic environment; collaborating with undergraduate students and university faculty and staff (3 years).
  • Experience using Canvas or other Learning Management System and PeopleSoft or similar technology.
  • Experience in coordinating events, program management and using assessments to measure the effectiveness of programs and services.
  • Experience with academic advising, DARS, Critical Tracking, and Major Maps.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development and leadership theories.
  • Experience in maintaining attention to detail while prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, service-focused, team-based environment.
  • Evidence of managing tasks and balancing priorities; taking initiative and contributing new ideas and innovation.
  • Evidence of organization skills; attention to detail, problem solving abilities; working as a team and effective communication skills.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • May include exposure to external environment/climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
  • Ability to manage a team.
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend events for students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
