Event Services Purpose
Connecting the Carolina community through exceptional event services and vibrant facilities. Carolina Union Event Services is a team of passionate experts dedicated to ensuring all meetings and events meet their potential by delivering comprehensive scheduling and ticketing, innovative audio visuals, and welcoming environments.

Position Summary

The Event Manager coordinates and administers complex performing arts technical services and facilities management, as well as the teaching and supervising of students learning the trade. This position is one of two Event Managers that report to the Associate Director of Event Services. Together, they oversee delivery of all events related services including student and contracted staffing as well as the scheduling, maintenance, inventorying, and upgrading, of event related equipment (venue audio, lighting, video, tables, chairs, linens, etc.) for two dedicated performance venues, 26 meeting rooms, and off-site programs using Carolina Union services. The Event Managers work with the Associate Director of Event Services, the Reservation Manager, and the Guest Services Manager to ensure successful event support. This position keeps current on event technology trends, maintains and updates technical proficiencies, and supervises, trains, and evaluates a student staff team of approximately 40 students. This position works within the larger team of the Event Services office and communicates on a regular basis at meetings, in 25Live, and via email regarding event support needs and production updates.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree preferably in the Theatre Arts, and some experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Experience working in an event support related field.
  • Experience with student activities/programming groups.
  • Knowledge and skill with computer applications such as reservations software, word processing, and communication.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including leadership, attention to detail, professionalism, initiative, teamwork, a positive attitude, and an ability to relate successfully with customers representing a wide variety of backgrounds and interests.
  • Demonstrated abilities in management, event planning, and staff supervision.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Knowledge of the operation of audio and lighting equipment used in live productions and conferences.
  • Knowledge of event production, setup, and design.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License or eligibility to hold a valid NC Driver’s License.

Must be able to move 50 lbs. with or without accommodation and work in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment.
