Job Title:  Entry Laboratory Science Professional

Job Summary:

The Neff lab is looking for a highly motivated individual to assist with several exciting research projects as an entry level position. We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Science Professional to work in the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. The research is focused on delineating the mechanisms of HIV-associated enteric microbiome dysbiosis and chronic immune cell activation. The research duties will involve flow cytometry-based tests, following laboratory protocols, and general laboratory procedures. The candidate will be introduced to tissue culture, processing and freezing PBMC, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and other basic cellular immunology research techniques.

The candidate must be willing to work with specimens from HIV infected subjects and have good sterile technique. Strict attention to detail in sample testing and reporting of results is a must. Must have ability to work independently, meet responsibilities without continuous supervision and good verbal communication skills. The position is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours are usually 8:00 to 5:00 weekdays, but occasionally longer hours are required, depending on participant volume and schedules. Some travel may also be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide range of complex procedures, and specific techniques may include, but are not limited to, cell isolation and cryopreservation of PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) from blood and single-cell suspension from different tissue types, multiparameter flow cytometry staining assays, T cell stimulation assay, cell proliferation assay, immunophenotyping, intracellular cytokine assay, ELISA, and ELISpot.
  • Perform flow cytometry panel design, assay development, validation, data analysis (FlowJo), and interpretation.
  • Presenting data or updating projects at weekly lab meetings.
  •  Assist in various other projects as needed.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
  • Research experience in immune responses to microbial infections, microbial immunology/host-virus interactions or addressing mechanisms of viral pathogenesis.

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $40,280 to $51,236.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
