About the Department
 

Biological Sciences Division Information Services (BSDIS) provides IT services to the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) including Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, IT Security, Software Development, and End User Device Support.


Job Summary
 

This position develops and implements analytic programs and supports the use of analytic platforms and administrative data across the University. Reviews administrative data for joint analyses across multiple domains. Partners with functional stewards, business units, and user partners to develop reporting and analytic solutions with appropriate data governance and secure access.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, creates, and supports dimensional data models for academic, administrative, and clinical functions.
  • Gathers and vets data definitions for new and existing data-driven solutions.
  • Ensures security and compliance.
  • Documents and implements processes that lead to continuous improvement in customer service.
  • Participates in the development of Business Intelligence (BI) and other analytical applications. Works to achieve an integrated reporting and analysis environment, effectively leveraging analytical systems and tools.
  • Plans and executes requirements analysis, translating requirements into a scope document and developing reporting deliverables based on the design.
  • Works with users to ensure deliverables are meeting or exceeding expectations. Provides support and communicates issues to users as defined by IT standards. Monitors access control and troubleshoot BI and analytic applications.
  • Participates in planning, testing, and roll-out of patches and upgrades to the BI and analytic software. Participates in the development and interpretation of BI and analytics system standards and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in computer science or related field.

Experience:

  • Five years experience in the job offered or in analytics, business intelligence, ETL development.
  • Three years of experience designing and implementing ETL processes.
  • Three years of experience designing and supporting data mart or data warehouse solutions.
  • Three years of experience developing and supporting data visualization solutions (e.g. tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SSIS, Crystal Reports).

Preferred Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL, business analytics, and reporting tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Familiar with ETL tools such as Microsoft Integration Services.
  • Familiar with data warehousing concepts such as dimensional data modeling (e.g. star schema, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid model combining remote work with in-office work, percentages to be determined by business needs.
